Running down the court, I keep my eyes ahead to see where to pass. I get down to the other side, scanning my options. Nobody’s open. I take a few more dribbles, stop, and shoot. Swish. The ball goes right through the net. First shot of the game. That was my first basketball game of my 7th grade year.

Growing up, my family has always tried to incorporate basketball into my everyday life. I’ve played on a variety of different teams my whole life, and I’ve always learned new things. Every day after school, I go outside and practice shooting for about an hour. It helps me relax, and it pushes me to try harder.

When I don’t have practice, and I eat dinner at home, I try to get finished fast so I can go outside. I tend to listen to music as well because it gives me more energy. Aside from the work, there are also fun games that are mixed in to make it more enjoyable. Although I love playing with my teammates, sometimes I prefer to practice by myself. That way, I can avoid distractions and concentrate on the game.

Over spring break, my mom took me to an NBA game in Oklahoma. I love basketball, so it was very entertaining. Watching how the players moved the ball was fascinating, and gave me ideas on how to move the ball better. Over summer break, my mom also took me to Indiana to see a Womens’ National Basketball Association (WNBA) game. Seeing the difference between both men and women playing basketball was fun to watch. The women took more outside shots, and the men drove to the basket.

I guess you could say that basketball is my favorite sport. There are so many exciting things about playing the game. One of my favorite things about basketball is warming up. That way, I can ease into basketball and it helps me get pumped for practice. I love watching basketball online so that I can get tips for how to improve anything that I need help with. Aside from watching other teams play, being on a basketball team with your teammates is the highlight of the season. Playing with my friends and improving along the way is my favorite part of playing basketball.
