Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Karen Swope

Hi! My name is Piper S. and I am a student here at St. Pats. I got the honor to write about our wonderful new office assistant! Now, you get to learn about how she helps our school.

Welcome to St. Pats

Mrs. Swope is new to the school this year, she helps Mrs. Delp at the front office. Mrs. Swope met Mrs. Delp when they were younger. They have been friends for quite a long time. Mrs. Swope was looking for a job, so Mrs. Delp told Mrs. Swope about the job opening and she decided to come to St. Pats.

Fun Stuff!

Mrs. Swope’s favorite movie is White Christmas. Her favorite books are Tiger Burning Bright and A Door in the Wall. Mrs. Swope likes to  read, take pictures, loves to go sailing, and loves to knit in her free time. Mrs. Swope graduated college with a degree in religion and psychology. She didn’t play any sports but she was in the color guard for the band.

Kids vs. Adults

Mrs. Swope worked corporate jobs up until 2005. Then she worked at S&T for almost 18 years. After that, she worked at East Central College for three years. I asked her, “Is working with little kids different from teaching young adults?” She said, “The first day I came here, Mrs. Delp was showing me around and we made it over to the kitchen and she said, ‘Here’s the pantry with clothes for kids who have an accident.'” Mrs. Swope had never really thought about it like that because she had been teaching college students for 21 years!
