Hi my name is Oliver M. I love to play football and baseball in my free time. I am making this story to share some of my opinions about kicking in the NFL. I hope you enjoy!
Kicking in the NFL
In the NFL there are kickers not just skill player that kick field goals and PATs (point after try). Field goals range from about 20 yards to 68 yards (The record of the NFL). The accuracy on these kicks have skyrocketed tremendously, and there for I think it should be made more of a challenge . The normal rules for the field goal from NFL.com: “The kicker must make a placekick or dropkick from behind the line of scrimmage, or from a fair catch spot, to send the ball between the goalposts and over the crossbar, scoring three points. The ball must pass entirely through the goal’s vertical plane and cannot touch the ground or offensive players after being kicked.” If it’s good, it’s worth three points.
Should They Make Kicking Harder?

I think they should propose a rule to make a skinnier set of posts to the field goal and make that worth three points and the bigger ones are worth two points. I feel like they should make this change because kicker are getting way to good at kicking and they can sometimes control the game from in side the 40. Especially with the new kick off rule a team coils start at the 30 and only have to go 30-35 yards to get a field goal. Jaguars kicker Cam Little can make a 70 yarder as he showed us in the preseason to win the game. He also just made a 68 yarder in regular season setting a new NFL record.
Should Ties Be a Thing of the Past?

On the other hand I think the NFL should add a rule where there is no more ties in a regular season games. After the 10 minute overtime period if each team hasn’t scored yet there should be a kick off. I think each kicker should start at the 30 go back 10 yards every make until someone misses. There probably should be a more in depth rules so no one cheats the rules. This new rule could add more pressure to kickers and make the game more entertaining instead of a tie.
These rules could make the games more exciting, and it could help the NFL to make kickers a little less valuable. Also it could take ties out of a game making the end of an overtime period more entertaining. These are just some of my opinions on this topic. I am also a kicker so I’m just sharing my view about NFL kicking. Thanks for hearing my thoughts hope you enjoyed!
