A “Travel Team” To Say The Least

From Dec. 1-5, 2021, our very own Roman S. (MY FRIEND) was at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orland, Florida. Why, you ask? Well, the story goes all the way back to the summer, when Roman decided to try out for St. Louis Scott Gallagher. Of course, being the literal legend among men he is, Roman made the team, the ‘07 ELITE team. One of the two teams in all of Missouri that have the privilege of representing their state at this tournament in Florida.

“How does this tournament work?’’ you may ask. Well, I’m glad you did. A bunch of teams all over the country come down to this ONE sports complex, where they play soccer against each other. It’s a pretty big deal. When I asked my boy Roman about his experience, he said: 

“It was very nerve-wracking, as we didn’t know what to expect. I mean, we knew the teams had to be good, we just didn’t know HOW good. We beat Washington, lost to Oregon and tied Texas. The entire place was, like, OWNED by Disney, so they had us stay in hotels, sort of, BY Disney, which was super cool.” Wise words. 

Roman also told me that the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex had 30+ soccer fields, as well as baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and indoor dance and gymnastics facilities.

“Everything was super high quality,” Roman said. “The fields had probably the best grass I’ve ever played on.” 

And it doesn’t end here. Roman says he’s planning on going all the way to ARIZONA to play soccer in February.
