The Bismarck was a World War II German battleship. The Bismarck was 52,000 tons. It had eight 15-inch guns, and its max speed was 30 knots. The Bismarck was commanded by Admiral Gunther Lutiens. On May 1941 the Bismarck was spotted off the coast of Bergen, Norway by British reconnaissance aircraft. Almost all of the British home fleet was sent to intercept the Bismarck.Two British battleships had made contact off the coast of Iceland.
The Battleship Prince of Wales and a battlecruiser The Hood had soon engaged the Bismarck. One shell from the Bismarck had hit the magazine and it made it explode. 30 hours later, British aircraft found and located the Bismarck. It had been hit by a torpedo that broke its steering gear and was later bombarded the whole night by Battleships.
On the morning of May 27, Battleships King George 5 and the Rodney incapacitated the Bismarck and it sank being hit by three torpedoes from a cruiser. There were 2,300 aboard and only 110 survived.
