People of the Flag
8th graders raise the flag high and show our colors!
Beau and Lucy start every morning walking up to the office to set up the flag you see in front of our school and end every day taking down the flag.
They have been responsible for doing the flag since seventh grade. Originally, Beau and Lily, a former student of St Patrick School, were chosen to do the flag until Lily left and Lucy took her spot.
The flag protocol at our school got started by our wonderful principal, Mr. Arnold, who needed people for the flag, and saw Beau as a good person to start with, since his parents were both in the Army (thank you for your service!).
Doing the flag has become an important part of their everyday life. Lucy said, “I think everyone should learn how to fold a flag since it’s an important part of our culture.”
Since Beau and Lucy are graduating St. Patrick school soon, they are going to pick new people to do the flag.
Sometimes I put on a ski mask and dress in old clothes, go out on the streets, and beg for quarters.
