The Speech Team meets every Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30pm. The team accepts grades 5-8, and you practice and memorize speeches to perform at speech meets. The meets are hosted in all the participating schools. You can perform a monologue (by yourself) or a duet (with another person)!
Not only do you get to travel to other schools during the day, but speech can help build a very important skill, confidence! If you want to improve on your social speaking skills, or if you just enjoy speaking, speech is the place for you!
At the meets, you are not competing against other people. The judges take YOUR score, and give you either a white, red, or blue ribbon! White ribbons are participation ribbons. Blue ribbons are the highest it goes, so congratulations if you get one! Red ribbons mean you didn’t get a blue ribbon, but you still did amazing!
Once you perform a speech, you are able to pick out a new one to memorize! I know that many of you will say, “Oh, I can’t memorize something so fast!” But they give you plenty of time to memorize your speech.
Here are a few interviews from different people in speech!
