Hello, it’s me Logan and I have something a little different to tell you. This week is our first week back to school and I want to do a little bit of a breakdown on the Soviet T-34-85 tank.
The T-34-85 was a Soviet medium tank designed in 1944, and immediately was tested and put into mass production. The original T-34 was a success for the Soviet Union, but it was lacking one thing. The T-34 was missing a strong, reliable anti-tank gun. The previous 76 millimeter anti-tank gun on the T-34 was fine but it didn’t have enough penetration to reliably deal with other tanks like the Tiger, or King Tiger tanks. So, the Soviet Union designed a new turret capable of wielding a powerful 85 millimeter gun and was capable of carrying enough ammunition and having enough armor to protect the crew.
Then, the T-34-85 was born, one of the most iconic Soviet tanks of World War 2. The T-34-85 was deployed on all fronts that the Soviet Union was currently fighting. It proved itself time and time again against Panthers, Tigers, and Panzers. The T-34-85 is still serving in the Russian army right now but isn’t used much. The T-34-85s are in tank museums across the world and are available to see today. Some you can go and see drive around and some are abandoned in battlefields across europe.
