Hello, it’s me Logan B. and I have another story to tell you. This week I’m writing about my Great Uncle Jim. He was a Captain in the US Navy for 30 years, and worked on many ships in his career.
My uncle’s full name is James W. Orvis. He was a Captain like I said earlier, and was a Professor of Naval Science, and taught at the University of Washington. He and all his siblings were born in Kansas City, Missouri.
During his 30 years in the Navy he served on 10 ships. He served on the USS Vogelsang, USS Fechteler, USS Pegasus, High Point, a South Vietnamese patrol boat, USS Reasoner, USS England, USS Crommelin, USS Enterprise, and USS Abraham Lincoln.
My uncle also served in Vietnam and was on a Vietnamese patrol boat to help secure Vietnamese coastlines. He was in combat a few times against the Vietnamese but he returned home completely fine.
My uncle served on two aircraft carriers and was Chief of Staff of a carrier strike group. He served on a few guided missile destroyers and cruisers. He also was on the USS Pegasus which is a ship that can glide above the water with special stabilizers.
Anyway I just wanted to let all of you know about my uncle and what he did in the navy. I think he is a super cool guy and I hope to meet him someday.
