Road to the Kentucky Derby 2022: Holy Bull Stakes

Holy Bull:

Throughout the years, the Holy Bull stakes have been changed numerous times. The distance has been altered seven times and the purse has risen and fallen over the years. This year it was 1 1/16 miles. In 28 years, the Holy Bull has produced 41 Derby Starters. This year’s purse was offering $250,000 and it was a sunny day at gulfstream. This year’s Holy Bull offered 10-4-2-1 points to the respective top four placers.

White Abarrio started at the front of the pack and stayed there the entire race. He pulled an upset, and with low odds, had a very good finish. Personally, this boy is going to have to become my favorite. His white (more of a gray-dapple) coat makes him stand out and his jockey is one of my personal favorites, Tyler Gaffalione. Gaffalione also was a jockey to War of Will (2019). 

Simplification pulled in a close second, with Mo Donegal, and hung at the back until the end. Mo Donegal had the high odds, but still came in third. Galt came in fourth, with very low odds (19-1).

With this win, White Abbario has landed himself 3rd on the Kentucky Derby Leaderboard. Simplification has brought himself up to 19th with this single race. Mo Donegal has landed himself 4th, with 2 races. Galt has got himself to 39th with this year’s Holy Bull stakes.
