6th Grade Service Project Turns Into Something Big

Pulling weeds turns into water feature construction

Earlier this year 6th grader Cody came up with the idea to construct a koi pond for their service project. They work on it two to three times a week during their service hour under the supervision of Mrs. VanHoose. She said, “The 6th grade class had planned on finishing it in the spring.”

All the departments have chipped in with helping the 6th grade build the koi pond. Mrs. VanHoose (math) has helped with calculating the size and depth for it. Mrs. Fischer (science) helped the 6th graders go over the ecosystem koi fish have to live in. Mrs. Greenway (geography and language arts) helped with creating flyers and speeches about donating money to the cause getting parishioners involved, too.

The koi pond will be located on the west side of the church and built around the Christ of the Highway statue.
